Summer Community Service

In May, SHWM partnered with our colleagues at Smith and Howard for our annual cookout at Shepherd Center. Each year, our employee volunteers gather on a late afternoon at Shepherd’s Secret Garden to prepare and grill hamburgers and hotdogs (almost 700!), desserts, drinks and more for the patients, families and staff of this unique rehabilitation facility.

Interacting with those giving and receiving the services of the Shepherd Center never fails to remind us of our good fortune and put things in perspective for each of us. The resiliency and courage of the patients and their families and the unwavering dedication of the staff of Shepherd are inspirational. We also recently participated for the second year in Marcy’s Mulligan, a golf tournament that honors Marcy Scott and raises money for the Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Hospital.

Piedmont’s Chapman Family Cancer Wellness is a nonprofit that serves cancer patients free of charge, providing nutrition, relaxation, exercise, education, and support programs throughout cancer patients’ entire journey.
